The continued street trading and vehicular blockade along Douglas, Mbaise and Ama- JK road: Is it Imo Government or the people? (Photos below)
BY PRINCELY ONYENWE,IMO
The continued blockade of vehicles, traders and unapproved refuse dumps along the popular Douglas, Ama-Jk and Mbaise roads and some other connecting streets in the Owerri municipality has continued to disturb the road users and residents on a regular basis after the good efforts of ENTRACO ISWAMA failed.
9News Nigeria who toured round the streets of Owerri in the early hours of today has confirmed beyond reasonable doubt that the Imo streets have returned to it’s dirty position.
The pictures here are the actual position of these roads mentioned above at the time of this report.
When contacted, the ISWAMA BOSS said his men are always on duty likewise that of the ENTRACO to make the state clean.
Also the CONTINUED and INCREASING road block was attributed to the conjection of traders and hawkers along these roads. Illegal car parks and reckless driving of transported are another major causes of this urgly menace in the heart of the town.
Our source told 9News Nigeria that the government is not serious with their policies while the people have taken such advantageous position of no execution of culprits and offenders to become lawless and behave madly in the state”
But regrettedly, the lumps of refuse along Douglas EKEONUNWA MARKET area are there for the eyes to see.
An anonymous hinted that same task force agents of government go behind and laise with few disgruntled elements in the municipality to collect undue levies from road side traders and drivers and instruct them to stay back and Continue with their business without recourse to the laws of Government.
This situation has also increased the come back of picking pocket criminals in the streets.
On my investigation this morning, I stood close to a trader within the Mbaise road by Douglas and supprisingly a young man was busy discussing with a buyer while three other young men came close and pushed eachother and feel on the buyer without knowing what has happened.
Few minutes after, the buyer who came to purchase some items turned and started shouting to the chagrin of passer-by that his infinix pro was snatched.
When asked, I was able to confirm that even majority of the road side traders are among the picking pocket criminals along Mbaise and Douglas roads.
Meanwhile, it is on record that the government of Hope Uzodinma has promised to change the narrative of governance in the state but how effective are his lieutenants helping to implement these laws and be able to restore the beauty of Imo state.
A call in the right direction is to jettison every offender of Government laws and apply stringent measures to punish road/ traffic/ sanitation/ street trading/ ESWAMA/ ISWAMA offenders without fear or favour.
The enforcement agents are expected to represent the Government in good manner while praying Imo people to be obedient to the state laws to build a better Imo.
It is the prayer of Imolites to see the government implement these laws,do more work to Improve the state and to as much as possible open all the roads to avoid traffic conjection along our roads while traffic agents should wake up and carry out their responsibilities.
